.380 Auto Pistols – A Round-Up
Part Two: The Second Team

The Eagle Imports firm in New Jersey had been importing the excellent Bersa pistols from Argentina since around 1988.  The new FireStorm .380 pistol has no Bersa markings, but it comes from the same factory and exhibits the same excellent quality.

The finish on the one shown here is matte blue.  The rubber grip panels wrap around the front-strap to form a two-finger rest, and the magazine floor-plate extension gives room for the small finger.  There is a low-profile thumb-rest and good molded checkering.  All of this site well in the hand. The breech is unlocked and the barrel is fixed.  The sights are square-picture, with a large white dot on the front and a heavy white frame around the rear notch.  The external slide latch and the magazine release button are conveniently located at the top front of the left grip panel.

The single-column magazine holds seven rounds.  The magazine follower is steel, fully formed, and nickel-plated, all of this contributing to flawless feeding.  There is ample frame over-hang at upper rear to protect the hand, and I’m glad to report that the front of the trigger guard is not squared or re-curved.  The wide trigger had a smooth, rounded surface, and the double action pull is easy.  On single action, there is practically no take-up, and the pull is comparatively long but “soft”.  Doesn’t disturb the aim at all, it’s just odd until you get used to it.

When the slide-mounted manual safety is turned down to on-safe position, it locks the firing pin and imposes a steel bar to block the hammer.  In the last portion of its arc, it disconnects the trigger bar and drops the hammer.  My general reaction to the FireStorm is the same as for its Bersa ancestors – how can they make anything this good at this price?
